What Actually Happened When OpenAI's AI Went Rogue

During an internal cybersecurity test, an AI agent powered by an experimental OpenAI model was tasked with a benchmark exercise. Instead of staying inside its sandbox, the agent reasoned its way out, discovered a previously unknown vulnerability and used stolen credentials to reach Hugging Face’s production servers, pulling out the information it needed to complete its assigned task.

So what does this mean for you?

The model wasn’t hijacked by an outside attacker. It made an autonomous decision to break a boundary because that boundary was in the way of finishing its job efficiently – similar to your tireless workers.

That is precisely the behavior every AI agent you deploy is optimized to exhibit, just usually with lower stakes and better-defined limits.

Learn more about how this fallout gap is impossible to ignore and what actually happened when OpenAI's AI went rogue.

AI Isn't a Substitute For Human Skills

As Michael Fenlon, Executive Director of Harvard Online and former Chief People Officer of PwC, puts it, in an age of AI, “nobody in an organization is paid to be average.” Technical skills are now table stakes; what differentiates individuals and organizations is the ability to turn AI capability into business impact.

AI can generate options; humans still must decide what problems are worth solving. Companies need leadership – not automation.

A Simple Five-Question Audit Before Scaling with AI

Most leaders assume AI success comes down to technology. After helping organizations navigate digital transformation for years, Matt Domo can tell you that is rarely the deciding factor. He has worked with companies that invested millions in data platforms, machine learning models and AI tools only to see minimal business impact.

Before he helps any company scale AI, he runs a simple five-question audit.  The first question is always the most important because everything else depends on the answer.

Learn more about the five-question audit.

Technology may power transformation. Leadership determines whether transformation actually happens.

This Woman Shares Her Secrets For Getting the Most Out of AI at Work

Formerly the global head of machine learning for startups and venture capital at Amazon Web Services, Allie K. Miller is among the busiest AI consultants and influencers in the industry, with more than 1.6 million followers on LinkedIn alone.

Allie says, "By the time you wake up, your AI should have already been working for you for hours.”

Is that so?

In an interview with Inc., Miller says that nowadays, she largely works out of Claude Code, the agentic coding system developed by Anthropic. She keeps multiple instances of Claude Code running simultaneously in separate terminals. Because these Claude Code instances have access to Miller’s filesystem, they can autonomously complete work on her behalf.

Learn how she does this.

Building Your Own AI Assistant

Gen AI can save you time, but once you’re using it frequently, the process of repeatedly uploading the same background files and re-entering prompts for common tasks can really eat into your efficiency gains.

That’s why many generative AI platforms allow you to create custom AI assistants: what ChatGPT calls a “custom GPT,” Claude calls a “Project,” and Google Gemini calls a “Gem.” These assistants store elements of a prompt that you might want to use over and over so you don’t have to include them every time you ask the platform to help you with your recurring tasks and challenges.

How AI Changed the Game for a Global Manufacturer

When Coberg, Germany-based Kaeser Kompressoren started on a journey to improve its data quality, little did it know that artificial intelligence (AI) would become a major game-changer for its business.

With a workforce of around 8,000 and a global sales and services organization operating in more than 140 countries, Kaeser is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and providers of compressed air solutions and services.

Together with SAP, Kaeser wanted to improve data quality and optimize its core business processes.  “AI was on our radar screen back then, but it wasn’t our starting point,” recalls Dr. Norbert Enge, chief business consultant for SAP Business Transformation Center.

The proportion of SAP Business AI in Kaeser’s data project rose from less than 10% in the first year to over 30% in the third. Today, the team is now 100% focused on SAP Business AI and has developed 12 specific use cases targeted at adding value for customers.

Will AI Revolutionize Every Industry?

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said that he thinks AI will be more transformative than fire or electricity.

It’s very easy to get caught up in the excitement. But here’s the problem: Most of this buzz and hype is coming from multi-billion or trillion-dollar companies – like Alphabet or Microsoft - that have a vested interest in selling us on an AI-powered future.

Every day, it seems, we hear bolder and more grandiose claims about how AI is poised to change the world.

To what extent are these hyperbolic predictions realistic, and how much is simply marketing hype?  Find out here.

WPO Chicago I Member Denise Press Featured in Fox Business

A recent study done by Morning Consult for Visa that surveyed small business decision-makers found that just 52% of U.S. small businesses have adopted AI in their operations, while about half of non-adopters are planning to follow suit within the next two years. Of those that have implemented AI, 85% say their use of AI has increased compared to a year ago.

"There is a recognition that AI and the advancement of technology is important in small business," Denise Press (pictured), Visa's head of small business for North America, told FOX Business in an interview. "There was an equal weight of, 'I don't know how to get started' and not knowing how to get started and not being experts in AI and/or new technology."

AI Is Changing the Workplace

Unlike many tech companies that are actively downsizing office space and waffling on RTO timing and policies, AI companies are seeing the need for physical office space to do their suddenly desirable work.

Artificial intelligence could be the savior of the office building.

The real estate services firm JLL estimates that by the end of 2023, AI companies will occupy 17.2 million square feet of office space across the country.
