Women Who Want to Lead

For the past 25 years, Nina Vaca has been running Pinnacle Group, an IT and staffing firm in Dallas. While she's seen the industry evolve from the birth of the internet to the introduction of the metaverse, she still hasn't seen a clear path for women who want to lead.

Today Vaca runs PG on the foundation that people are the asset, and providing service to them is the goal. She applies this mindset to both her clients and her employees -- and anyone who wants to learn how to create a successful business. "My purpose is to improve lives through entrepreneurship, and Pinnacle's is to connect them with opportunity," she said.

Do You Battle Impostor Syndrome?

What is imposter syndrome? It's having unproductive thoughts about yourself and your capabilities.  Here's what Kat Ambrose at Fast Company wrote after she had reached a milestone in her freelance writing career:

Ambrose was experiencing impostor syndrome, the belief that one is inadequate, a failure, or a fraud despite proof of success.  She goes on to say that impostor syndrome shows its ugly head in three different facets of entrepreneurship—in client work, when growing business, and in professional development.

See what else she unearthed and determine whether you fall into any of these gnarly traps.

Success On Their Own Terms

Whether they're embracing entrepreneurship because of a grand vision or to have greater control over their lives, women business owners still face obstacles. Yet, when it comes to economic impact, women are all business.
They are the primary or sole breadwinner in 40 percent of U.S. households with children, according to the Pew Research Center.[i] And they're increasingly striking out on their own. Roughly 36 percent of all businesses are women-owned (51 percent or more), and another 9 percent are equally owned by women and men, according to U.S. Census data.
